Design by Chuck Gale and Loren Foster
The clients bought this beautiful house (parts of which date to the 18th century) in 1994, and made several changes to the structure before turning their attention to the surrounding landscape. Their goal was to reconfigure the outdoor spaces to make them more orderly and formal, and to better suit the needs of their family. Beginning in 2000, Gale Nurseries executed a series of projects resulting in a complete makeover of the property.
Starting from a gravel courtyard edged with antique pavers in front of the house, the property drops downhill in several levels to a parterre below the swimming pool. A visit here is full of surprises, with different garden rooms found around every corner and beyond every wall, hedge, and change in grade.
